Comprehensive Product Shelf

Our experienced team of salaried (commission-free) advisers have obtained all the registrations and licenses required to ensure that our platforms offer the most comprehensive product shelf in the industry, from conventional investments to alternative investments to life insurance.

Investments

Our turnkey platforms give exclusive access to a comprehensive list of conventional and alternative investment products to suit the different risk tolerances, investment goals, time horizons, and estate planning objectives of the end client.

Furthermore, our platforms accept all forms of client accounts, such as cash accounts, margin accounts, registered accounts (e.g. RRSP, RRIF), education saving plans (RESP), and tax-free savings accounts (TFSA), among other account types based on client-specific information.

Conventional investments

Stocks. Canadian stocks that trade on the TSX, TSXV, CSE, and Aequitas NEO Exchange; U.S. and foreign stocks that trade on the NYSE and Nasdaq; over-the-counter (OTC) stocks; rights and warrants.
Bonds. CAD and U.S. government and corporate bonds; commercial paper; strip coupons; treasury bills.
Exchange-traded funds (ETFs)
Mutual funds
Segregated Funds
Guaranteed Investments (GICs)
Options. Long calls and puts; Spreads; Covered writing; Uncovered writing.

Alternative investments

We believe the conventional “60% equities / 40% bonds” approach to asset management doesn’t provide the same long-term growth and protection from market volatility as a portfolio that includes private capital.  SCS’s expertise in private debt and private equity allows us to offer our clients a level of portfolio sophistication and diversification that eclipses the product shelf of traditional financial advisors.

Insurance

Life insurance plays a crucial role in estate planning by providing liquidity to cover estate taxes, debts, and expenses, ensuring assets are preserved and efficiently transferred to beneficiaries.

Life insurance is also a vital component of efficient tax planning, providing tax-free death benefits to beneficiaries, mitigating estate taxes, and preserving wealth across generations.

Our turnkey platforms give exclusive access to a comprehensive offering of life insurance options and the competitive advantage that comes from dealing with 24 of Canada’s best insurance carriers.

Term life insurance

Provides temporary coverage for a specific period of time (often 10, 15, or 20 years) to cover specific risks such as income replacement, education, bank loans and mortgage, partnership & buy/sell agreements, and creates an estate earlier in life.

Permanent life insurance

Provides lifelong coverage to preserve the policyowner’s estate and offers several advantages over term life insurance, such as a savings component that increases the cash value of a policy over time, allowing the policyowner to access additional funds during their lifetime.

Permanent life insurance is an ideal tool to protect a business owner’s estate and legacy:

Whole life insurance provides lifelong coverage, a tax-free death benefit, and a tax-preferred savings portion (cash value) and a fully-managed investment strategy.

Universal life insurance provides lifelong coverage, tax-free death benefit, and optional tax-preferred savings portion (cash value) with more premium options and greater investment options for the policyholder.

Critical illness and disability insurance

Critical illness insurance provides financial protection to individuals in the event they are diagnosed with a severe and specified medical condition. Unlike traditional health insurance, which covers medical expenses, critical illness insurance pays out a lump sum benefit to the policyholder upon diagnosis of a qualifying condition, regardless of whether they have incurred medical bills.  Disability insurance is designed to replace a portion of the policyholder’s income if they become disabled and unable to fulfill their duties.
